What to put on a one-page website for a small business
A one-page website works for most local businesses if it answers what customers want to know before they come in. Here’s what to include, roughly in order from the top.
At the top
- Your business name and what you are, in plain words: “Thai restaurant”, “nail salon”, “shoe repair”
- Today’s hours, or whether you’re open now
- One main button: order, book or call
In the middle
- Your menu, services or prices, typed as text
- A few photos of your food, work or space
- A short paragraph about the business in your own words
- Anything people ask on the phone a lot: parking, delivery area, walk-ins, catering
At the bottom
- Your address with a map or directions link
- Your full weekly hours, plus holiday hours
- Your phone number and links to your Google listing, Instagram or Yelp
Behind the scenes
- A page title like “Thai restaurant in Silver Spring, MD | Your Name”
- Structured data with your hours, address and type of business
- Images sized for phones, so the page loads fast on a cell connection
- The same name, address and phone as your Google listing
What to leave out
Pop-ups, music, a PDF menu, a slideshow at the top and long welcome paragraphs. Each one slows the page down or pushes your hours and order button off the screen.
